How Stefanie Naylor Became A Fashion Designer By: Jasmine Perry

Stefanie Naylor is a fashion designer based in Palmdale, California. The 31-year-old fashion designer is known for her gowns and accessories from her Stefanie Naylor Couture and SparklySHT line. Believe it or not, Naylor started sewing dresses for her Barbie dolls at the age of seven. By the time she was in high school, her love for sewing and drawing was inspired when she started watching “Project Runway.”

During Naylor’s junior year, her career began when she got accepted to FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) in Los Angeles, California. Right after graduating high school, Naylor attended FIDM that summer. Although the fashion designer did not complete her education at FIDM, she still landed her first internship for fashion designer Ashley Paige in 2008.

With Naylor’s pageant background, she had the opportunity to model Ashley’s swimwear line alongside other celebrities during her internship.

With so much prior experience, Naylor was already a professional in the fashion world. “Instead of spending another additional year there. I actually started interning for another designer, and then I just learned more on the job working in the fashion industry itself than what I was learning in school,” Naylor said.

After interning with Ashley Paige in 2010, Naylor interned for fashion designer Michael Costello which landed her an opportunity to work with him from 2014 to 2015. While working with Michael, she found her passion in designing evening gowns.

While Naylor worked with Michael, she was able to custom-design outfits for Beyonce and Lady Gaga who was on tour with Tony Bennett.

According to Naylor, after working with Michael she went on and designed a gown for reality star Porscha Williams for her “Real Housewives of Atlanta” reunion show. As well as red carpet gowns to performance pieces for country singer Lindsay Ell.

The talented fashion designer has not only designed female clothing but male clothing as well. Naylor was able to make a custom jacket for keyboardist PJ Morton from Maroon 5. The inspiring designer even mentioned that if she could design a jacket for her eye-candy, John Mayer, she wouldn’t mind taking on that challenge.

Speaking of a challenge, back in 2015, Naylor went on to audition on the E! News reality TV show the ”House of DVF” with Diane von Fürstenberg. In a preview, you can see Stefanie talking to one of the previous season winners saying that she made her dress just yesterday and the girl’s shocking response was “Are you kidding?”

During the interview, I asked Stefanie if she could custom design an outfit for one celebrity in the future who would it be? The fashion designer says she hopes to custom design for country singer Kasey Musgraves. With the singer’s vintage but modern look, Naylor has always been a fan of classic film costumes.

To this day, the creative fashion designer keeps surprising us. According to Naylor, it only takes her less than a day to make a dress for herself without any interruptions.

“If I am making it for myself I can make something in about six hours but if I am making it for another client, then I have to schedule fittings and you know, tweak it to their measurements to get everything perfect, so that adds in time too,” Naylor said.

Although Naylor has not worked for New York’s Fashion Week, she has worked behind the scenes with Michael Costello other famous designers for L.A.’s Fashion Week. The talented fashion designer even explained she would even like to host her very own fashion runway show one day.

Naylor not only designs gorgeous gowns and performance outfits but she also designs sparkly face masks, which you can find at stefanienaylor.com. As of now, the fashion designer has been dedicating her time to designing apparel, handbags, and even kitchen towels which you can find at SparklySHT. According to Naylor, SparklySHT is just cute and fun stuff she has been working on during the pandemic aside from her Stefanie Naylor Couture line.
