Five Places To Shop For Mother’s Day By: Karina Rocha
Mother’s Day is fast approaching! And if you’re in need of some ideas on where to shop, here are five places to check out while also supporting Latina-owned businesses.
These shops have a wide variety of things to choose from to make this Mother’s Day extra special. The first on the list is Gabulous LA. Gabulous LA was founded by Gabriela Alvarez, and its mission is to, “bring trendy and affordable accessories for everyone to enjoy.” This jewelry does just that. They have hoop, stud, and dangle earrings, necklaces, necklace charms, bracelets, and rings. But a personal favorite for this Mother’s Day would have to be the wide selection of hoop earrings. The “textured hoop” earrings, for example, have such a beautiful design because of their uniqueness and texture. Not only that, the material’s quality is tarnish-free and water-resistant which means it will last for many years to come.
The next place to visit is Luz y Tierra. This brand is known for their artisanal candles. Luz y Tierra partners, “with artisans in different states of Mexico, form relationships and highlight the beauty of the process.” This is truly shown in their beautifully designed candles. They have a wide selection of candles to choose from this Mother’s Day. The Toluca candle is one I will definitely be looking into for my mom. It is held in this handmade ceramic teacup with a coconut vanilla scent. This design is my favorite for its blue and turquoise-colored flowers. For those who love everything candles, it’s a perfect Mother’s Day option.
Art is an amazing way to express your love this Mother’s Day, and Art by Ana Alvarado’s pieces do just that. Her art is, “infused with thought-provoking, vibrant and emotional rawness, her inspiring paintings and drawings explore being Latinx in the US and a woman.” The way she expresses herself about what it means to be a Latinx woman in the US is so inspiring. She displays what it means to be a Latinx mother and how one should have self-love through prints like “Love Yourself Madly”. Her website offers a wide selection of art prints to choose from. For example, for this Mother’s Day, I love the “Unbreakable Bond” art print for its beautiful portrayal of a mother daughter-relationship. This art print shows a mother and daughter hugging each other with flowers in their hair. It truly shows the deep connection between a mother and daughter.
For moms who love makeup, Araceli Beauty is the perfect place to shop. Araceli Beauty is Latina owned and was launched by Araceli in 2018. Araceli says that “I saw a genuine opportunity to share my passion for makeup and do my part to represent Latina culture in the beauty space.” Her passion for makeup is shown through what she has created. Araceli Beauty has makeup for the eyes and face that is vegan and cruelty-free. There are also bundles and kits available. But this Mother’s Day I will be looking at the lip liners. Araceli Beauty has a lip liner with four different colors: classic red, warm taupe, rosy mauve, and soft peach. There are so many things to choose from like eyeshadow palettes or eyeliners.
For those whose moms are into skincare, VAMIGAS Botanicals of Latin America should be on your list of places to check out this Mother’s Day. VAMIGAS was founded by Ann and Christina in efforts to make wellness, “practical, simple, easy, (mostly) free, and tested by generations of Latin American women before us.” They have a wide variety of skincare products from face mists to cleansing oils that are made from plants. The Cielito Hair Oil with babassu and patatua, for example, helps with frizz and breakage. But there are many more products to look into for this Mother’s Day.
Make sure to check out these places this Mother’s Day and remember the only thing that truly matters is to spend time with your mom on this special day!
