Visit Oakland Provides Content For Entrepreneurs

Being a solo entrepreneur you are constantly dealing with multiple issues. From social media to content to finding the secret to work/life balance. Well, did you know the city of Oakland can help out with that?

A few weeks ago, Visit Oakland provided me with an array of information to help me gain content for my business Epifania Magazine. Their office is located in Jack London Square, so my day started from there.

Coffee at Bicycle Coffee: Bicycle has two location, one in Jack London and another in Uptown. Both locations provide free coffee every Friday. Let’s face that is amazing for entrepreneurs on a budget. The location in Jack London is close to public transit and a great place to meet people. So treat yourself to some coffee and tackle those endless emails in an industrial environment.

Oakland Museum of California: I’ve always been a fan of museums. If you are in a funk and cannot think of content, walking through a museum can inspire you. But let’s say you need some amazing photos for your Instagram. This museum has multiple gardens and a rooftop that oversees Lake Merritt. On a nice sunny day, you can take multiple photos outside. We all need “springtime” photos for our Instagram. For a few more weeks, they have the hip-hop exhibit for fans of West Coast hip-hop.

Chinatown Murals: This is my favorite find! I had no idea there were so many murals in my neighborhood. I was able to walk to all of them. MODELS, listen up! There are plenty of colorful and engaging murals that be used for street scenes. You can follow along by clicking here. The murals are created by Dragon School. A nonprofit that provides youth a way to express themselves through experimental art.

Old Oakland Galleries: You can walk to Old Oakland and check local shops and galleries. Again galleries can inspire you. You can find new content to write about or just look at the art. One of my favorite galleries in Old Oakland is the E14 Gallery. Not only do they have art but they have apparel that celebrates Oakland. They even opened up their gallery to local artisans for pop up shops. A few weeks ago, they hosted the first ever Mercado Latinx event.

Rosenblum Wine Cellars: Back to the issue of work/life balance. After a day of gaining content, you can treat yourself to some wine at Rosenblum. They don’t have wi-fi but if you have a hotspot or a portable wi-fi device. You can grab a glass of wine, and look at the bay, and create some content. Unlike other wine bars, this one has an array of snacks and food. So you can grab a bite to eat with fellow creators and entrepreneurs to go over content and then head home.

I ended my day, walking home. Because like I stated earlier, this whole neighborhood is walkable. If you need to park, you can park around Jack London for four hours. There is a free shuttle called the Broadway Shuttle that can take you to all these stops.  You can also take BART and get off the Lake Merritt or 12th Street exit.
