9 Hit Songs Turning 10 In 2021 By: Lupe Llerenas
Picture the scene: It’s 2011, Beyoncé just broke the Internet by announcing her first pregnancy of her daughter, Blue Ivy, Charlie Sheen was just fired from “Two and a Half Men,” and the music industry was delivering bop after bop.
It was a simpler time. 2011 was a prime era for Spanish music from Reggaeton, Latin Pop, and Bachata. Wisin y Yandel, Shakira, Enrique Iglesias, and Jenni Rivera, were just some of the artists who had tunes dominating the charts. So, in the spirit of nostalgia, I’ve compiled a list of songs that made 2011.
Let’s take a trip down memory lanes and enjoy these timeless Spanish songs!
“Danza Kuduro” – Don Omar & Lucenzo
When “Danza Kuduro” was released in the summer of 2011, it became a summer anthem and became number one on the Hot Latin Songs, giving Don Omar his second US Billboard Hot Latin Songs number-one hit and Lucenzo his first.
“Corazón Sin Cara” – Prince Royce
“Corazón Sin Cara” is the song that put Prince Royce on the map in 2011. The song’s lyrical content deals with the self-esteem of girls and their appearance. However, the Bachata singer is there to make girls feel worthy.
“Loca” – Shakira featuring El Cata
Shakira’s “Loca” appears on her seventh studio album, “Sale el Sol.” The Spanish-language version features Dominican rapper El Cata, which saw success in both Latin America and the United States.
“Basta Ya” – Jenni Rivera feat. Marco Antonio Solis
In 2011, “Basta Ya” highlighted the career of Jenni Rivera. The Mexican-American singer released the song in pop and regional Mexicana banda during her twelve and final album “Joyas Prestadas.”
“Bésame” by the Mexican pop/rock group Camila was the third single from their album “Dejarte de Amar.” The song reached number one on the US Billboard Latin Pop Airplay charts.
“Promise” – Romeo Santos featuring Usher
“Promise” by Romeo Santos and Usher was featured on Santos’ debut studio album “Formula, Vol. 1” in 2011. The song combines elements of bachata and R&B and peaked atop the Billboard’s Latin Songs chart, becoming the second consecutive number-one song in the chart for Santos and the first for Usher.
“Tu Olor” was the second single by Wisin & Yandel’s album “Los Vaqueros: El Regreso.” Thanks to the success of it in 2011, the song received the award for “Urban Song of the Year” at 2012 The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Awards (ASCAP).
“Llueve el Amor” – Tito El Bambino
“Llueve El Amor” by Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Tito El Bambino was the first single from his album, El Patrón: Invencible in 2011. “Llueve El Amor” achieved so much success that a Banda version of the song was also released featuring Banda El Recodo and was also included in a Spanish soap opera Eva Luna.
“El Poeta” was the lead single by Venezuelan duo Chino y Nacho off their album, “Supremo.” It is the duo’s fourth single and with so many great reviews, the song was picked up for an AT&T commercial featuring Chino y Nacho.
Now, there are just some of the best songs that came out in 2011 and are turning 10 this year; a big milestone. So, I want to know, which of these songs were your favorite? Let me know in the comments below.
