Where To Shop For Back To School Essentials By: Jasmine Perry
Summer break is over, and back to school has begun. Although we are still dealing with coronavirus and the rise of the Delta variant, sitting in class is a thing again, and back-to-school shopping is a must.
As a parent, it’s nice to have the kiddos go back to class. However, to some parents, this is their kids’ first year in class face to face. Therefore, what do kids need since they can’t lounge around in front of their laptops anymore?
Last year in 2020, everyone had to quarantine, and many of us had to shop online (which is not the same). So as of now, people are taking precautions and finally shopping in stores again.
If you don’t know where to shop at a store near you, here is a list of stores with spectacular sales of must-have school items.
WALMART
We all know that Walmart is our go-to store and is known to be in almost every county. It is a store with all the essentials for your kid, especially backpacks starting at $10. With their affordable prices, Walmart has JanSport backpacks starting at $33.50 compared to Target, whose JanSport backpacks start at $34.99.
TARGET
Although Target is known to be pricier, it is known to have better essentials. If you’re trying to shop with a Starbucks in your hand, Target is the place to do that. Target has incredible school supply deals starting at 25 cents, 50 cents, and 99 cents. Now that’s a bargain.
Yes, dress to impress is still the principle when getting to know someone, so what’s better than expressing yourself with what you wear.
OLD NAVY
Old Navy has been around since 1994, and if you were born around that year, you probably owned at least one t-shirt with Old Navy written across your chest. Now that your kids are in school, they can carry on the tradition with their trendy styles.
From September 15 to October 15, Old Navy will be featuring three Latin artists to create Project WE with t-shirts that honor Latinx Heritage Month.

The featured artists are Cuban/Salvadoran Manuela Guillén, Latinx Favianna Rodriguez and Chicanx Ruby Marquez. Each t-shirt represents the different cultures of each Latinx artist.
The Latinx Heritage Month Shop at Old Navy features clothes for babies, toddlers, kids, adults, and maternity.
While you’re browsing for t-shirts, don’t forget to check out Old Navy’s incredible sales, the heritage store is having up to 60 percent markdowns in clearance.
Speaking of sales, although Labor Day sales ended, that doesn’t mean any more sales aren’t coming. Let’s not forget Veterans Day, Black Friday, Cyber-Monday, all of these will be happening during the school year. These opportunities mean you can still snatch up those pairs of sneakers you’ve been eyeing.
SHOE CARNIVAL OR PAYLESS
If you’re looking for specific name-brand shoes such as Nike or Adidas, Shoe Carnival has popular styles on sale. However, if you are on a budget and want to save even more money, Payless has made a comeback with huge deals. The shoe store has even bumped up their sales with up to 75 percent off on their clearance.
While schools are trying to get back to the usual routine, some states still require wearing a face mask indoors. According to CDC guidelines, all students in K-12 will have to wear a face mask in class regardless of vaccination cards.
Face masks can be uncomfortable and irritable for some kids, so why not buy colorful and fun face masks for your little ones? You can also have face masks match their outfit or have the face mask be their fashion statement.
AMAZON
Amazon has bundles of washable face masks for kids and adults (yes, adults can join in on the fun too). The reusable bundle comes with five face masks in which you can choose from Crayola print or holiday themes such as Halloween or Christmas.
However, if you’re looking for Hypoallergenic face masks, The Futon Shop has organic cotton face masks for kids. Although they’re not as colorful, you can always sew or iron on a cartoon character patch of your kid’s choice as a DIY project.
The bright side to all of this, seasons will be changing while your kiddos are at school. Naturally, you’ll want to save the dates for the holiday sales because who wants to forget?
Your kids will need new clothes for the fall but will eventually need winter clothes in December (depending on where you live). Keep in mind when seasons end, sales go through the roof, and because of that, here is a list of more stores to keep an eye on.
