How To Season In & Out Your Closet By: Jasmine Perry
Pumpkin spice is in the air, leaves are falling from the trees, summer is long gone, and you’re ready to wear leggings and long sleeves again.
Every season has its wardrobe, and if you’re having trouble where to put your hot girl summer clothes, there’s no need to panic. There are two ways to swap out your spring and summer clothes for your fall and winter attire.
By getting into the habit of making your wardrobe transitioning easy now, you should be able to separate your warmer clothes from your cooler clothing every year. For example, combine your seasons: spring with summer, and fall with winter.
Summer to Fall
First and foremost, choose a couple of sleeveless tops you wore during the summer that you want to keep for high temps in the fall. As for the rest, pack them in boxes or a spare closet. If you’re the type that has a whole wardrobe for each season, this will help you transition to the following season.
For short sleeve tops, keep thicker material ones for the fall and winter. These types of tops are easy to combine with a light jacket.
If you have a storage bin, make sure to fold all your tanks, shorts, skirts, dresses, and anything hot weather-related; this also means bathing suits (unless you’re going on a hot vacation during the fall or winter season). However, if you have a spare closet to hang your spring and summer tops and dresses, I recommend doing so to prevent wrinkles on your clothes.
Fall to Winter
We tend to wear long sleeves, sweaters, jackets, leggings, pants, sweats, jeans, boots, sneakers, scarves, and beanies throughout the fall and winter. As for heels, you could leave closed-toe heels in your fall and winter wardrobe for a special occasion.
For your fall wardrobe, make sure to bring out the long sleeves and sweater tops if temperatures drop down to the 50s. As for dressy outfits, keep thicker material dresses out, as well as jumpsuits and overalls when you want to dress up.
Fall will come to an end on December 21st, and you will want to keep the long sleeves and those black leather leggings you brought out because leggings are a girl’s best friend. Combine your light jackets and thick jackets because temperatures fluctuate when transitioning from fall to winter.
Winter to Spring
Once spring has sprung, you’ll want to keep the denim jackets from your fall and winter wardrobe out. Since it’s hard to tell how the weather will be, denim jackets always come in handy during seasonal transitions.
Once winter comes to an end, it’s best to collect all warm-related clothing pieces from your closet and store them in an accessible spot. It will make it easier to get what you need if you go on vacation to a colder place.
Spring to Summer
Spring and summer are the seasons when we wear shorts, skirts, light dresses, tank tops, wedges, sandals, sneakers, and jeans. However, jeans and sneakers are year-round clothing pieces that make swapping easier for your closet. So those can be a permanent staple in your closet when fall and winter come around again.
There is not much swapping out since both seasons call for bright colors and thin materials. As for fall and winter, although dark colors are in, so is thicker clothing, which is why it’s best to store those puffy jackets away since they tend to take up so much space.
Storing away your seasonal wardrobe will not only make space in your closet but will help you stay organized all year round – it may even help you get rid of old clothes. Do you find yourself constantly storing certain pieces away? Sell or donate it! If you love to buy the latest trends as well as hold on to old ones, try this tip at least twice a year, and you’ll see how well-curated your closet will be.
