How To Pick A Wedding Makeup Artist With Adria Craig

Even as summer fades and the autumn season is upon us, we still are putting on our wedding guests outfits. Last-minute gifts are still being bought, parents are still inviting people that were not on the list, and brides are still hiring makeup artists for their weddings.

One of those brides was our makeup consultant Adria Craig. As a makeup artist, she loves the wedding season; but, until her own wedding was upon her, she did not know the struggle.

“When you’re the bride you have no idea what all you have to do and figure out to make sure that the day goes smoothly,” shared Craig, “I did have some hiccups the week of my wedding that was out of my control like getting strep throat.”

As a bride, there are a lot of makeup decisions you have to make. Whether you want to do your makeup yourself or hire someone; do you want full coverage, natural, or glam look. Craig suggests that if you are doing your own makeup, play around with looks and products one month before your wedding date. However, if you want o to hire someone because you just want to sit back and relax the day of there is a lot that goes into finding the right person.

Craig has created a list of questions to ask your potential makeup artist.

  • How long have you been doing makeup?
  • Are you licensed?
  • How much do you charge? Is it per hour or per person?
  • Do you charge extra for eyelash application?
  • Do you have photos of your work?
  • Have you done a wedding before?
  • Do I need to bring my own foundation?
  • Will you be doing a trial run before the big day?

Finally, when looking at your budget, decide if you want the makeup artist to do the bridesmaids makeup. See if the artists have any group deals and if they need to bring on more artists to do the makeup for the bridesmaids. If you want your bridesmaids to look the same, but you don’t have the budget, ask them if they are okay paying that amount.

“Lord knows you don’t need extra drama going on and it’s out of respect for your bridesmaids they are already doing a lot for you. If it’s out of people’s budgets, a budget-friendly solution is to go to Sephora and spend $50 on makeup and they will do your makeup there,” shared Craig.

We all know that weddings can be stressful, but weddings are also the most special day in one’s life. Craig day was beautiful and couldn’t have had it go any more perfect and yours should be that way too!
