Fashion Doesn’t Have To Be Expensive
Fashion does not need to be expensive. Clothes are made for us usually for less than $5, but we are charged any price between $20-$100.
With the bombings in Bangladesh and other places in the world, and the harm we are doing to cotton farms, it is personally hard for me to buy brand new clothes.
However, I am not here to give you a lecture on the ethics of the fashion industry. I do want to share with you two of my favorite places to shop.
Knimble is a consignment store located in Oakland. The first Knimble store was opened in Cotati, CA in 2005. Their design is clean and open. They have a wide array of dresses and shirts, which are my two items I purchase the most. My favorite item, I purchased there is a bohemian theme dress.
When I asked Knimble to tell me more about themselves, this is what they had to say.
‘Amanda Messbarger opened the first Knimble store in Cotati, CA in 2005. The idea of opening up a buy sell trade store came to her when she moved from San Francisco to Cotati to attend college. When she moved she noticed that there were not many shopping options for resale clothing and decided to bring that thrill of the city to Cotati.’
The second place I like to shop is the online consignment shop, thredUp. thredUp, give you a wide array of selection of high end products for a reasonable prices. Instead of people throwing away their clothes, where their clothes will just end up in the landfill, they donate their items and receive some money.
I purchased a classic Michael Kors dress for $14. Besides the great prices, it’s a subscription box company where you don’t have to pay a monthly fee. You purchase clothes when you want to.
Again, fashion does not need to be expensive. You can find great deals that fit your personal ethics.
