How To Clean Your Makeup Brushes By: Adria Craig
With all the concerns about the coronaviruses going around, it’s a perfect time to clean those makeup brushes. All you need is a few simple things to clean your brushes.
- Bowl (big enough for all your brushes to fit in)
- Anti-bacterial soap
- Rubbing Alcohol
First get warm water, as warm as you can get it. Put antibacterial soap and water in the bowl, put all brushes in the water. The end of the brushes can be sticking out, just make sure the brush end is submerged in the water soap mixture. Let those sit for about 10 minutes.
Next with warm running water as long as you can stand it put soap on your hand and wash the brushes by hand. Using your hand as a textured surface to clean the brushes, clean them until the water/soap runs clear and there is no more makeup coming from the brush. Do this with every single brush. Beauty blenders have to soak a little longer. Once it’s been soaking, rinse the blender and squeeze it while warm water is running. If you need to, repeat this step till the blender runs clear with one more makeup coming from it.
Once makeup is washed from the brushes, empty the bowl of soap and hot water and get warm water going again. Fill the bowl with warm water then put the rubbing alcohol in the water, put a generous amount. Put all brushes back in the bowl and let them sit for another 10 or so minutes. Once they have sat in the alcohol and you take the brushes to dry out, I fling the brushes into the sink getting off all the excess water. Lay down a paper towel or a clean towel and let the brushes air dry. I like to put mine in the sunshine so they can dry a little faster.
With these steps, your brushes will be clean and sanitary for you to use.
