Are We Getting Lazy With Fashion? By: Jasmine Perry
Quarantine fashion is among us and there is a possible chance it’s here to stay.
Almost every fashionista asks, has the Covid-19 pandemic changed our views on fashion? Facemasks and loungewear have become the go-to when leaving the house. However, the post-pandemic is near and many of us are going to have to get used to wearing “normal clothes” again.
There’s no such thing as a shop until you drop unless you walk into every retail store and the first thing you see is, racks among racks of loungewear at the front of the store.
At the beginning of the pandemic, retail stores closed and online shopping became the new normal. Right before we had to quarantine, reality TV star Kim Kardashian launched “The Cozy Collection” from her Skims line in which thousands of women purchased the fuzzy cozy sets.

As for me, I went the cheaper route in purchasing a similar fuzzy set from Fashion Nova – unless you look closely, you can’t tell the difference.
Growing up in a Hispanic household, loungewear was meant to be worn in the house. Although I lounge around in loungewear, I never really had it in me to go grocery shopping in my loungewear clothes unless I’m sick and heading to the hospital.
For example, I was raised to go to church, dressed up and never down. If I wasn’t wearing a nice conservative dress, then a pair of slacks or nice pants with a dressy top and closed-toe heels would do – depending on the weather.
When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, everything changed from what we did and how we dressed. For instance, many people started working from home and held Zoom meetings. However, as long as you looked presentable waist up – sweats or PJ bottoms were out of the question.
As for the gym’s closing, people even started working out from home and wearing workout clothes 24/7. Overall, here is a list of what the pandemic fashion consisted of throughout the year.
Although mandated facemasks have been lifted across the country, coordinating facemasks with your outfits has become a thing. Even the pop star Lady Gaga lounges in style with a tie-dye hoodie and her studded facemask.

One thing is for sure, fashionistas have noticed comfort in fashion. However, could loungewear be considered normal clothes in the future? Are we getting lazy with our fashion? And will racks of trendy normal clothes be back in front of all retail stores? We’ll just have to wait and find out after we’re back to normality.
