Shelter In Place Home Care Tips

Shelter In Place has had us all staying home more. Our homes have become our restaurants, offices, churches, gyms, daycare, and schools. When your space has increased its purpose, you start to realize that your space doesn’t 100% work. You don’t want to wake up and feel uncomfortable, cause it’s your home.

These tips should work for any home any size. I live in a one-bedroom apartment with a balcony.

  • Sweep and Donate: Spend a day or a whole weekend and find all those pieces that you are not using and can donate. I realized I had a lot of little pieces that didn’t match the vibe of my place and took up space. So the place felt smaller and had more clutter. Even if it’s tiny art decor on your table. If it doesn’t match the place, why keep it?
  • Multi-Use Furniture: In small spaces, your furniture should have multi-purposes. We have an ottoman that is grey and matches the vibe of the living room. However, it can also be a storage piece. This ottoman holds all of our old photo albums that don’t match the vibe of the living room, so we can’t have them out, but we don’t want to get rid of the photos.
  • Fix Those Sore Spots: We all have sore spots when we are getting ready. Maybe you keep losing your shoes. Maybe you have to dig deep to find your yoga mat. Maybe you can never find a notebook. Maybe your shoes are too high up. Well, pick a day and fix those sore spots. It might require you to rearrange your place or purchase a new item. But the end result will provide you with more inner peace.

Depending on your space, you may have to create a Zoom friendly background, clean your balcony or backyard, or create a desk area. The trick is you need to create multiple spaces to do multiple things. The end goal is to create a space that feels like home.
