How To Say Goodbye To Goya

It’s been a few months since we all decided to break up with Goya Foods. For some it was an easy breakup, for others it was a painful tears everywhere type of breakup. Goya has been in many Latino households for years.

But alas, 2020 is the honest bish we all been waiting for – she showed us Goya’s true colors. Just in case you were asleep in July (which we get), the Goya CEO, Robert Unanue stated at a conference at the White House that the U.S. was “blessed” to have Trump’s leadership. Yeah, I know, total mic drop moment. How are you going to be a company that has Latino customers and supports a man who has a history of racial statements about your customer base? I mean even Hitler had enough sense not to talk ill of his Nazis.

However, we must move on. Now here at Epifania, we do suggest that you protest companies that don’t align with your views but don’t be wasteful. If you have Goya products in your cabinet already, use it. Protesting shouldn’t hurt the environment.

Here are some companies to help you move on from Goya Adobo seasoning.

Simply Organic is a spice and seasoning brand that grows and processes its products in an ethical and sustainable manner. The brand’s Adobo Seasoning is made with kosher, non-GMO, non-ETO ingredients.  Not only can you purchase directly from their website or from Amazon, but you can also buy this at Wal-Mart, Target, and Whole Foods.

Freakin Rican is a New York City-based Puerto Rican restaurant dedicated to serving fresh, healthy, and delicious food to the community. It also makes its own adobo and sazón seasoning available for purchase online. You can shop Freakin Rican spices directly from their site.

Primal Palate is a seasoning brand that focuses on paleo-friendly products and carries an adobo seasoning made with USDA-organic ingredients. It doesn’t contain GMO or pesticides, plus it’s kosher-certified and is ketogenic-, paleo- and Whole30-approved. I know super fancy and healthy. You can purchase Primal Palate Adobo Seasoning directly from their website or from Thrive Market. However, you can also purchase it at Wal-Mart or other stores.

Loisa is a New York City-based brand dedicated to creating better-quality Latin foods. It carries adobo and sazón seasonings made with USDA-organic ingredients and that don’t contain GMO, MSG, preservatives, or artificial coloring and flavoring. You can purchase directly from their website or from Amazon.

Calicutts Spice Co. is a Pennsylvania-based spice shop specializing in handcrafted, small-batch spices. It carries a Mexican Adobo Spice Blend made with natural, gluten-free ingredients. You can purchase Calicutts Spice Co. Mexican Adobo Spice Blend directly from their site or on Etsy.
