Why Educated People Tend To Be Liberal

why-educated-people-tend-to-be-liberal-epifania-magazine-3This election has divided the United States into two camps: Liberals vs. Conservatives. In previous years, we had more fluidity between the groups. There were people that were moderate Democrats and moderate Republicans. I know…aw…good ol’ times.

However, liberals and conservatives have always had different views and ideologies. Why do we have such different ideologies? Education. Before you get angry, this doesn’t mean that all Democrats are smarter than Republicans. Well…maybe it does.

According to the Pew Center in a 2015 report:

“More than half of those with postgraduate experience (54%) have either consistently liberal political values (31%) or mostly liberal values (23%), based on an analysis of their opinions about the role and performance of government, social issues, the environment, and other topics.

“By contrast, among the majority of adults who do not have a college degree (72% of the public in 2015), far fewer express liberal opinions. About a third of those who have some college experience but do not have a bachelor’s degree (36%) have consistently liberal or mostly liberal political values, as do just 26% of those with no more than a high school degree.”

This same report stated that Millennials have more liberal views than previous generations. Gen Zer’s have similar liberal views with strong views on climate change, the unjust and unfair treatment of black people across the globe, and the right to choose one’s own gender identity.

Now of course the notion that more education one has already led to more liberal views isn’t something new. However, if you take a look at media publications’ political leanings, it does solidify the notion that the more education one has. the more they start to question things.
