When the pandemic started, it drastically changed or halted in-person events. From concerts to festivals to weddings everything had to be reconsidered. This summer I was asked to be the maid of honor at my sister in law’s wedding. At first, she and her fiance were planning to postpone their wedding to next year. However, they decided to have a smaller wedding this year with plans to do a larger celebration next year. I was originally going to do her wedding makeup, however, living in Los Angeles and her living in Chico (a 9-hour drive) made it a bit difficult.

She decided to hire a local makeup artist that did her makeup for a photo shoot. During the wedding weekend, I saw in-person the changes professionals in the beauty industry are making to ensure their clients’ safety during this pandemic.
The makeup artist that did my sister-in-law’s makeup abided by all the changes required by the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.

  • Wore a mask before entering the home
  • Had different makeup brushes that she used on my sister-in-law and my mother-in-law
  • Had a makeup palette for the makeup that eliminated contact with her products
  • Used single-use items for whenever possible
  • Wore her mask the entire time she was working

As a licensed esthetician, I remember doing several hours of diseases, disorders, and sanitation training while in school. For your special occasion, make sure to hire a licensed esthetician that is licensed in your state. Stay safe and beautiful out there.
